Can Yuli Novak, director of Breaking the Silence—an organisation that records testimonies of violent militarism under Israeli occupation, often labelled by some as traitorous—be considered a heroine? What kinds of figures do we choose to promote on our cereal boxes? And can we confront heroes who force us to face our unsettling aspects, the darker realities, with open eyes?
